Verizon Push-to-Talk users – how do you rate it?
My company is considering changing cell phone companies but the PTT feature is a huge part of the equation. The business I’m in relies heavily on this type service so how the PTT service rates is a big deal. One of the major factors I know is that the carriers that offer PTT can not “talk” to other PTT devices with other carriers (ie. Nextel PTT user to Verizon PTT user). So before we make a decision I would like to hear from Verizon users that have this feature and what they think of it.
- How is the service? Does it lag?
- What other PTT carriers have you used in the past (to compare it to)?
TIA!
I had a Motorola V750 from Verizon about a week before it was officially released. I have used Verizon’s PTT service for one-to-one and group calls, and have found the service to be excellent. An advantage of the Verizon service over Nextel is the ability to view your PTT contacts on your phone to see if those contacts are available.
Before you go with the Verizon service, make sure you have native Verizon coverage in the areas where you travel. Verizon’s PTT service will not roam on U.S. Cellular or Alltel (yet.)
I currently use Nextel and AT&T PTT service as well as Verizon. I would be interested in doing some side-by-side tests of two or three of those services. In tests that I have already conducted, Nextel’s initial connection can be slightly quicker than Verizon’s. (I haven’t done any side-by-side tests of AT&T as yet.)
