military cell phone plan?

my husband is in the military, and we are moving to italy in two months.
we are trying to find a cell phone provider.
he really wants to get the IPhone… is there a way to do that?

we would not like to get an italian provider…

thanks :)

You can attempt to use something like AT&T or Sprint but they are huge costs per month. AT&T it is $1.99 a minute anywhere outside the US. So going with a US cell provider while stationed overseas isn’t smart unless you are a millionaire. You can use your phone while over there if it is unlocked and then get the prepaid cards in Italy. They actually offer the best deals for you to call. Then for calling back to the US use Skype online that way you would have a US # and pay a few bucks a month to talk as much as you want.

ETA: No, it is not a spelling error on my part, Skype is the name of the company that you can download to your computer or phone and use for free when calling computer to computer or for a monthly charge get a number in a certain country and then pay long distance for. For example you can have a phone number for a city your parents live in to call you on from their phone with no long distance charges to you while you are overseas in a foreign country. You can hook a phone up to your computer or use video phone as well. Was in SE Asia for 2 years and used it for business & personal use. There is also Vonage and Magic Jack.
