Tiny 10mph Fender Bender (no damage) – what to expect?
I was on the interstate, going very very slowly, like 10 mph b/c of terrible traffic. Suddenly, the lady in front of me stopped and I had not enough time to completely stop, so I pushed into her. We both went in the side lane (idk what it’s called but it’s where the cops always pull people over lol), and got out. No damage to my car at all, no damage to her car at all, yet she insisted on getting my insurance info because “it’s raining and there may be something under it.” She saw I was nervous and said to not worry b/c it’s probably nothing, she just wanted to have my info just in case…
Anything to expect? I asked her to give me a call on my cell phone in either case (good OR bad), so now I’m just waiting. Retrospectively, I realize that I should have obtained her info as well…was that stupid of me?
Any advice would be great.
You should report the claim to your insurance company. If you do not, and later she pursues a claim, they could deny you coverage for failing to report the loss.
It is also very possible she will pursue a claim against her own insurance company, and they will subrogate against yours for recovery. Your insurance company will question why you did not report the loss.
One final note, it is entirely possible she may develop “injuries” after discussing the claim with friends and family. These claims happen ALL of the time. Protect yourself and report the loss.
