Want a cell phone with QWERTY, calendar & alarms. Should I get a smartphone?

I’ve always wanted a PDA. Two years ago I almost bought a Blackberry and opted for a regular phone instead. Now my contract’s up with ATT&T. I want a phone and an organizer [calendar, alarms] with a QWERTY keyboard, good speakerphone and Bluetooth; however, I really don’t want a monthly data package. My ideal phone would be able to synch by USB with my computer at work and my laptop; I’m more interested in having a calendar available than sending/receiving emails and text messages or web surfing.

I’ve looked at Blackberry Curve, Blackberry 8700c, Palm Centro, Samsung Blackjack II, and Motorola Moto Q9. I’d like to stick with AT&T and hope that my SIM will work in a new phone. It would be great to get an excellent deal on a new/unused phone. Looks like if I re-up with AT&T I’ll get a good deal but will have maintain a $30 data package for at least 6 months. I’m looking for answers or maybe directions to web pages that can help this novice cell phone searcher!

Yes. Blackberries are the best for emails and texting, and good for web as well, and I’d stay away from the Q9 because i’ve heard too many complaints about it. The Iphone is good for media/web, but not ideal for someone doing a lot of typing. I have the new touch screen BB storm and the only thing keeping me from pulling my hair out while typing on it is the fact that i can select a letter before I click the screen. You can’t do that on the Iphone because it types as soon as you touch it.

The term PDA usually refers to smartphones that are low on consumer apps and are mainly for business. You should check into phone features in a little more detail before you get anything to ensure you’re not getting something that would benefit a CEO more than the average user who also wants web/email and texting.
