Do we have a legal ground to stand on or do we have to put up with this?
My husbands boss has started a rumor that hes a drug deal which is so far fetched its insane, He started this because he uses his cell phone at work and he says thats the only reason he is on the phone is for drug deals. This is getting out of control people are now coming up to him to buy drugs and my husband does not sell them or even do any. They also say its because we have a 4 kids and he doesnt know how we survive on his salary but I try to sell stuff on ebay and craigslist for extra cash. Anyway what can we do to put an end to this? He has already tried to talk to him and it continues. Please help and no dumb answers please I am really aggravated as it is!!!
he was on the phone lots but thats because we had a sick child that was in the hospital and he was either on the phone with me or doctors…It wasnt for fun
He should peruse his copy of the employees’ handbook to check the procedure when boss is the perp and find out what he can expect if he complains. Might be sufficient to confront boss privately in person to suggest that the joke has gone far enough and that he is now worried for his reputation and after examining the procedures is prepared to make a formal complaint. He might add here that he enjoys his position and the camaraderie with colleagues and so on and that he will consider the matter closed if boss provides assurance that he will publicly correct this misrepresentation, which was no doubt not intended to injure but which has nevertheless crossed the line.
And yes, he needs to stop taking personal calls at work!
