The TomTom XL 340-S offers the unique “advanced lane guidance” feature. Other devices that are available do not include this feature and end up making drivers look like drunk drivers swerving all over the road because of a missed exit. The TomTom XL 340-S provides a clear diagram with flashing arrows that show you exactly where to go.

Another great feature that is included is “IQ routes”. These routes are calculated using road date to provide the quickest route to your end destination. If the traffic is heavy where you are driving, this GPS will guide you to the closest roads with lighter traffic. This is a great feature that allows you to not rely on a speed limit.

The TomTom XL 340-S has its own software built in. It is easy to connect it to a personal computer of a Macintosh. The software will automatically install itself onto your computer and will allow you to add updates, add maps, and plan routes. It is even possible to add different voices.

Since you like Mr. T so much, you can add his legendary vocals to your GPS for $13. You can also select user created voices to add to the device. You probably have a massive ego, just add your own vocals if you want.

The TomTom XL 340-S provides easy to follow tutorials that explain different features like the bonus emergency help service. You are able to create map corrections (i.e. addresses, points of interest, street names etc.) and plan an itinerary. The device is really very cool.

The TomTom XL 340-S is unable to support Bluetooth or any real time traffic data (a separate receiver can be purchased). Even so, the XL-340-S is worth the price. You will have peace of mind, knowing that you will never get lost again. That is of course unless you have ventured to the planet Mars. This GPS is good, but its not good enough to guide you from Mars to Earth. The TomTom XL 340-S includes North American maps that feature over 7 million points of interest. It is likely that you will never visit every one of these places, but no harm, no foul.

This device has many more advantages than it has disadvantages. If you want to travel to Fantasy Island, you will be able to find your way home with this device. If real time traffic info or Bluetooth are important to you, then this may not be for you. The TomTom XL 340-S has become successful for a very good reason. It is definitely one of the best GPS devices on the market. Have you ever thought about who would name their GPS TomTom? Seriously, TomTom may be a great name for a band, but for a GPS?

What’s a good cell phone service provider for this situation?

I am a truck driver that lives in Canada (Saskatchewan specifically) and I will be starting to do some Canada/USA work in the near future. My current phone service provider doesn’t have very good plans for North America calling and as I like to phone home at least once a day, this will end up getting kind of pricey. I am using my phone for about 2,000 minutes every month as I also use it to contact my dispatcher and…well…anyone I would contact with a phone while I’m out on the road I guess.

Does anyone know of a good service provider that would let me pay a flat rate for a bundle of North America minutes every month? It doesn’t matter if this is an American or a Canadian provider, it just needs to be able to send me my bills in Canada which is something most any of them can do I presume.
I thought it might go without saying but yes I do plan to bill it to my credit card. I was slightly unclear, my apologies.
